Liverpool could step up goalkeeper interest

Brendan Rodgers is considering a move to bring Victor Valdes to Liverpool after growing concerned at Simon Mignolet’s shaky displays, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Reds boss was understood to have had concerns surrounding his Belgian’s stopper’s aggression and general performances before the West Ham defeat yesterday.

Although not directly at fault for any of the Hammers’ three goals, Mignolet didn’t perform particularly well, with Diafara Sakho’s cross/shot lobbing him after just six minutes.

Valdes is on the market after being released by Barcelona over the summer, and Rodgers is thought to see the Spaniard as a quick solution.

Due to the Spaniard being out of contract, he’s available at any time.

Liverpool are believed to be on the verge of sealing a contract with him, but only if Valdes can prove his fitness – he’s been out of action since early this year with a knee injury.

The World Cup winner is expected to be back and ready to play next month, at which point he could join the Merseysiders.

Mignolet was snapped up last summer from Sunderland and has failed to convince since making the big move.
