Newcastle’s pursuit of Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has reportedly hit a snag and collapsed, according to the Daily Star.
The Spanish full-back was reportedly under consideration by decision makers in the North East, as they search for defensive reinforcements at left-back.
However, the report claims the deal ‘has hit problems’ and the 30-year old will now not return to Tyneside.
The former Villarreal defender enjoyed a five year spell at St. James’ Park between 2007 and 2011 before moving to Liverpool for £7m.
He has made 76 league appearances for the Reds since the switch, though is running toward the end of his deal at Anfield.
However, he is not thought to be Jurgen Klopp’s plans despite appearing in the recent FA Cup clashes with West Ham and Exeter.
He lost his place under former boss Brendan Rodgers, with both Alberto Moreno and Jon Flanagan ahead of him in the pecking order.
