Liverpool delaying Suarez deal in favour of swap

Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona could be delayed until the end of next week as Liverpool attempt to persuade Alexis Sanchez to switch to Anfield, according to reports from The Guardian.

The Uruguayan ace is in talks with the Catalans, with a transfer away from Anfield all but a certainty.

Barca have not been put off by his four month footballing ban for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, and are ready to mount a bid to trigger his release clause – which is somewhere between £70m-£80m.

Liverpool are however willing for the sum to include Sanchez, who is seen as an ideal replacement by Brendan Rodgers.

But the Chile international is thought to be reluctant to join the Reds.

Reports suggest he would prefer a return to Italy – where he starred for Udinese – as Juventus circle, while Arsenal are also seen as a preferable option to the Kop side.

But Liverpool are ready to persuade Sanchez to sign for them when he returns from his post World Cup holidays.

Barca are keen for the attacker to head in the opposite direction, as the fee for Suarez would then drop to around £50m-£60m.
