Liverpool edge ahead of Man United in race to sign Dutch ace

Metro are reporting that Liverpool are close to sealing the signature of  Dutch wing wizard Memphis Depay after reportedly making an offer for his services.

The Reds are battling it out with fierce rivals Manchester United to secure the services of the 21-year-old, who currently plies his trade at PSV Eindhoven.

And the Dutch club’s sporting director Marcel Brands has claimed that Liverpool are now in pole position to land the highly-rated player – despite United boss Louis van Gaal having previously worked with Depay during his time as coach of the Netherlands national team.

The Red Devils are still hopeful of doing business, but Liverpool are reportedly closing in.

Depay is believed to be happy to forego Champions League football to move to Anfield, while he is also said to be impressed with the club’s transfer plans.

A deal is expected to be sorted out ‘within weeks’.

The starlet has been in sensational form for PSV this season, netting 27 times in all competitions.
