Liverpool are targeting AC Milan shot stopper Diego Lopez ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Despite manager Jurgen Klopp recently insisting he is not in the market for a new goalkeeper, circulating reports suggest that the Spaniard has caught the eye as a potential back up.
The former Real Madrid man, who was infamously selected over Los Blancos icon Iker Casillas under Jose Mourinho, has lost his place in the starting line up at the San Siro to 16-year old Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Current first choice custodian Simon Mignolet has often drawn criticism for his performances for the Reds since joining the club from Sunderland in 2012, although Klopp moved to back his ‘keeper.
‘I’ve had a lot of goalkeepers over the last few years and Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest I have ever had’, claimed the German tactician.
However, Lopez could be a target next month as Klopp looks for an experienced backup to add to his ranks.
There are suggestions that the Anfield outfit are willing to use Mario Balotelli, currently on loan at the San Siro, as bait in order to land the 34-year old.
