Liverpool are set to make a January move for unsettled Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore, according to reports from The Metro.
The Argentinian playmaker has grown frustrated with life in the French capital, with the pressures of a squad full of top class players weighing heavy on his shoulders.
The 24-year-old – who was PSG’s firs marquee arrival after their Qatari takeover in 2011 – has impressed on occasions, but has largely struggled to meet the standards that convinced the club to spend big to lure him to Ligue 1 from Palermo.
Pastore was linked with a summer move away from the Parc des Princes, but elected to stay in a bid to convince new manager Laurent Blanc of his abilities.
However, the South American’s agent, Marcelo Simonian, has revealed that his client is now considering a winter move:
“In football there are always ups and downs,
“He has been happy there, but now is not the time for nostalgia. We will see what happens in the next few months.”
This has alerted Brendan Rodgers, who is known to be in the market got a big name attacking player.
Liverpool failed with bids for Willian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan over the summer, but are confident that a £17m deal for Pastore could be concluded.
Arsenal are also keen, while the likes of AC Milan and Napoli are believed to be monitoring the situation.
Could Javier Pastore be the man Liverpool need to get back into the top four?
