Liverpool are considering a move for highly-rated Atalanta defender Davide Zappacosta, who starred for Italy’s U-21 side as they ended England’s European Championship campaign, according to reports from Metro.
The right-back has been involved with the Azzurri’s side in the Czech Republic, but despite their resounding 3-1 slaying of the Three Lions they were also knocked out of Group B.
Even with Italy’s woes Liverpool have been impressed by Zappacosta, who enjoyed a fine domestic campaign as well.
Reports claim that the Reds are looking at the 23-year-old, but they could face competition from the likes of Torino and Fiorentina.
Yet the Merseysiders could well out-punch their enemies in terms of a financial package for the defender.
Zappacosta could be a potential back-up option for Nathaniel Clyne, who is reportedly closing in on a move to Anfield from Southampton.
With Glen Johnson having been released, Brendan Rodgers is currently short on right-back options.
