Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for PSV wonderkid Steven Bergwijn, and he could be the latest in a long line of Jürgen Klopp projects.

What's the story?

According to SPORT, Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona and AC Milan are all interested in PSV winger Bergwijn.

The 21 year-old is in red-hot form for PSV, and his ability to play anywhere across the front three could make him an absolutely lethal weapon for Klopp.

Liverpool added Xherdan Shaqiri to their attacking ranks this summer, but they still have nowhere near the depth of Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane is yet to sign a new contract at Anfield, and after Real Madrid tried to sign him this summer could Bergwijn be a long-term replacement for the Senegalese international?

Long-term Mane replacement?

Liverpool fans won’t want to hear it, but at some point Real Madrid are going to come after one of their wingers. The Spanish giants sold Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, and have failed to score in their last four games in all competitions.

If Madrid were to come calling for Mane, then Bergwijn could be the perfect replacement. The young Dutchman has four goals and four assists in eight Eredivisie games this season, and his ability to burst past players in either direction is very similar to Mane.

The 21 year-old’s end product is incredible for a player of his age as well, scoring eight and adding seven assists in 32 league games last season before his red-hot start to this campaign.

Losing one of their wingers would be devastating for Liverpool, but in Bergwijn they would have a ready-made replacement ready to undergo the same transformation that all wingers do under Klopp.

He is averaging three shots, two chances created and over three dribbles per game this season, and his athleticism, versatility and finishing would set the Premier League alight.
