Liverpool eyeing Serie A stopper

Liverpool are eyeing a January move for Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto, as they look to provide competition for the current No.1 Simon Mignolet, according to Metro.

The Brazilian has been on the Italian club’s books since 2011 and has emerged as La Viola’s first-choice goalkeeper after a number of impressive performances, attracting the attention of the Liverpool scouts in the process.

After struggling with consistency and form, Mignolet has failed to convince Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers that he can occupy the goalkeeping position in the long term, and with contract negotiations between Neto and Fiorentina at an impasse, the Reds boss may make his move in the January transfer window.

The 25 year-old – who has clocked up more than 50 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina – has a release clause of €10 million, and although the club wants this figure to increase in light of interest in the player, Neto would like it reduced, suggesting that he is open to the possibility of a transfer.

Liverpool have kept just two clean sheets in 19 games, and are desperate to sort out their defensive problems to kick-start what has been a difficult start to the Premier League season.
