Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dropped a bombshell following his side's FA Cup draw with League One side Shrewsbury Town as reported by The Athletic journalist James Pearce.

What's he said?

The Reds looked set to advance into the next round after Shrewsbury defender Donald Love turned the ball into his own net to make it 2-0 to the visitors seconds into the second half, but the Football League minnows fought back to salvage a replay at Anfield.

Teenager Curtis Jones had opened the scoring for Klopp's side but the real hero of the afternoon was Salop substitute Jason Cummings after he came off the bench to net a quickfire ten-minute brace.

Sam Ricketts' men now get a huge financial boost as they'll compete again in a replay in the coming weeks, and their chances of progressing have just been bolstered too.

Pearce tweeted:

Klopp's priorities

It seems as if Liverpool have other priorities than progressing in the FA Cup, which is a shame but ultimately a sacrifice Klopp is going to make in order to create history.

The Merseyside outfit are 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but cannot afford to slip up in their quest to land their first-ever title.

They are also in the Champions League knockout stages as they look to defend their crown as champions of Europe, so added fixtures through another cup competition, one that offers replays, is just not what Liverpool need.

Injuries could seriously scupper their chances of completing a historic double, or at worst, clinching their maiden Premier League trophy.

Therefore, they will field the youth team when the two teams meet in the replay.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

It could well be seen as a sign of disrespect to Shrewsbury, who will have wanted the chance to do battle with the likes of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but it will give them a greater chance of progression, which in turn will boost their finances - even more so if they can earn another lucrative tie like this one.
