You get the feeling that Brendan Rodgers spent the past week cursing the international break after he lost £10 million summer signing Fabio Borini for three months. The Italian striker sustained a broken foot whilst on duty for his country and leaves Luis Suarez as the only fit and available senior forward at Anfield. Once again the decision to allow Andy Carroll to leave on loan just a day before the transfer deadline without having a replacement waiting in the wings has come back to bite Rodgers. He’ll now have to rely even more on Suarez to provide the goals that will lift the Reds away from the Premier League basement. Whether the Uruguayan can suitably manage that is another question entirely. Rodgers is paying dearly for his own shortsightedness in the transfer market and placing the extra burden on Suarez to lead the attacking line has the potential to be extremely dangerous.
This week on FFC how should Rodgers spend his transfer kitty in January and could a trio of La Liga stars be bound for moves to Merseyside?

Quote of the Week
“I’ve rested him a couple of times knowing the squad we have and the games we have, looking to prioritise, but like most footballers he wants to play every minute of every game. It is something I need to assess. The most important thing is winning games – that is what we need to do and in order to do that as often as we can I need the best players on the field. Luis will absolutely love playing three times a week but I need to try to nurture him because there are still many games to play between now and January.” Luis Suarez must carry the burden of being Liverpool’s only fit striker according to Brendan Rodgers
