Liverpool face battle for Argentine ace

Juan Iturbe (Verona)Liverpool will have to fight off interest from Inter Milan and Verona if they are to seal a deal for Porto winger Juan Iturbe, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan with Verona from the Portuguese giants and has been impressive in Serie A.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been alerted by Iturbe’s excellent displays, and is said to be considering a move for his signature next year.

But, rumours that his new side are keen to make the deal a permanent one at the end of the season are circulating, while Inter are also thought to be interested.

Verona have the option to buy Iturbe for £11.5m at any stage of his spell at the club, but it remains unclear as to whether or not the newly promoted side can afford such a fee.

Unlike in England, Italian sides can co-own players, which has opened up the possibility of a deal that could see his services shared between Verona and Inter.

“Iturbe is a surprise and if he can sustain himself he will become a very important player, emulating the feats of Alexis Sanchez,” Iturbe’s agent Claudio Pasqualin said.

“It will not be a problem for Verona to find a partner for his signature. I think it might be Inter Milan, but he must first prove himself this season.”

Rodgers is likely to oppose any offers as he steps up his plans to add to his attacking options.
