Liverpool face battle for French ace

Mamadou SakhoLiverpool will have to fight off interest from AC Milan if they are to conclude a deal for Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The French international looks set to leave the Parc des Prince in the coming weeks in search of first-team football after handing in a transfer request.

It is thought that an offer in the region of £8m will be enough to persuade the wealthy Parisians to sell, which has seen interest in his signature increase.

AC Milan are one side to have been alerted by this, and the Serie A giants are reportedly ready to make their move.

While the Italians are keen to pursue a loan with an option to buy, Liverpool are looking to tie up a deal swiftly, which may be more attractive to PSG.

Reds chief Brendan Rodgers has made strengthening his central defensive options a priority between now and the close of the transfer window, with the future of Martin Skrtel far from certain.

If the Slovakian moves on, the Anfield side will be left with only Daniel Agger and Kolo Toure as experienced, orthodox options.

Sakho is desperate to secure a move, with a spot in France’s 2014 World Cup squad high on the 23-year-old’s list of priorities.
