Liverpool face battle to keep veteran defender at club amid interest from Germany

The Sunday Mirror are reporting that Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel will be offered a move to German side Wolfsburg during the summer transfer window.

The Reds are already sweating on the ongoing situation involving Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson – both of whom have yet to sign new contracts at the club – but Rodgers is also keen to address Skrtel’s future.

The Slovakian is entering the final year of his contract at the Anfield club and with talks not set to take place until the campaign is over, Wolfsburg aim to persuade the 30 year-old that his future lies in the German Bundesliga. They are second in the league and are guaranteed Champions League football next year.

Skrtel has been at Liverpool since 2008 and had talks at the beginning of the year, but discussions have not progressed since. Napoli – whose manager Rafael Benitez initially signed Skrtel whilst in charge at Anfield – are also showing interest in the centre-back.
