Liverpool are interested in Southampton’s Sadio Mane after learning that a deal for Mario Gotze may not be possible, but they could face stiff competition from both Manchester United and Spurs, according to reports from Goal.
The Reds had been heavily linked with the Bayern Munich playmaker, whom Jurgen Klopp coached while at Dortmund, but it’s understood that he’s not keen on a move to Anfield.
The player himself has claimed that he’s eager to stay at the Allianz Arena and work under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.
As a result, Liverpool have turned their attention to other options, with Mane of Southampton being considered.
But, reports claim that they may face serious competition from bitter rivals Man United and Spurs for the pacey winger, both of whom can offer European football.
However, Klopp is hopeful that his relationship with Ralf Rangnick, who was the sporting director of Red Bull Salzburg when they signed the 24-year-old, may prove useful in negotiations with the player.
Mane is very much a ‘Plan B’ target, with the club aware that the door for a move for Gotze is not yet completely closed, but they are reluctant to focus all their attention on the Bayern ace in case he elects to stay put, or join another club.
