Liverpool face transfer battle for Argentine star

Javier Pastore (PSG)Liverpool will have to see off interest from Lyon and Roma if they are to secure a January deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Reds have been heavily linked with the Argentinian playmaker in recent months, amid rumours that he is ready to leave the Parc des Princes in the New Year.

Pastore was one of the Parisians’ first major signings following their Qatari takeover in 2011, but has struggled to match the expectations that came with his £35m price tag.

PSG have continued to invest heavily in their playing staff since breaking into the Champions League, which has seen the 24-year-old struggle to force his way into the starting XI on a regular basis.

Brendan Rodgers is thought to be keen to take advantage of the situation, with a £17m offer said to be on his list of January priorities.

However, the Northern Irishman is set to face opposition in the shape of Roma and Lyon.

The French and Italian duo are both believed to be watching Pastore ahead of winter bids.

Roma have reportedly contacted his representatives, while Lyon are willing to swoop to steal one of the rivals’ big name players.

Should Liverpool go all out for Javier Pastore?
