Liverpool face transfer fight for Ligue 1 ace

Lyon defender Dejan Lovren

AC Milan are ready to make on offer for Lyon defender Dejan Lovren in the summer, who is also being watched by Liverpool.

The Croatian has been a massive influence in the French team’s defence this season, and will be a transfer target for a number of clubs according to TalkSport.

The 23-year-old joined Lyon from Dynamo Zagreb for an undisclosed fee in 2010, and has since excelled as a player, helping the French side win the Coupe de France last season.

However AC Milan are one of many clubs interested in the defender, with Liverpool sharing an interest in the Croatian. Brendan Rodgers is looking to have a change of defenders next season, and will need a replacement for the retiring Jamie Carragher.

Joining Liverpool and AC Milan in the race for Lovren’s signature include Lokomotiv Moscow, Inter Milan, Rubin Kazan and Sevilla.

Lovren was highly involved in Lyon’s goalless draw at PSG earlier this season, where he was caught in the head by the boot of Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Croatian international has scored just twice in his 70 Lyon caps, but this season has helped guide his side to second in the table, and just four points adrift of Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain. Lyon next face Bastia away, where Lovren will be hoping to continue with his strong performances.
