Liverpool facing another contract rumble

Liverpool could be set for another contract wrangle with star defender Martin Skrtel yet to enter discussions regarding a new deal, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 30-year-old centre-back is set to be a free agent in just over 12 months’ time.

Although often criticised for an overly physical approach, Skrtel has been one of the Reds’ standout performers this term, playing well as the lynchpin in a three-man backline.

The Slovakian has revealed that he’s eager to stay at Anfield, but his future is in doubt with the club having not yet opened talks with him.

Skrtel is thought to be confused by the situation, with his feelings sure to have been influenced by Jordan Henderson’s fresh £100,000-per-week contract.

The issue has not come at a good time for Liverpool, who are currently stuck in a stand-off with 20-year-old starlet Raheem Sterling, who has already rejected a massive offer from the club.
