Raheem Sterling damaged his relationship with the majority of Liverpool fans when he left to join Manchester City in 2015.
The England international was accused of being a mercenary when he forced through the transfer.
However, in recent seasons the winger has become an integral part of the City team, and he has been shining for manager Pep Guardiola.
On Sunday, the 23-year-old scored twice and racked up two assists in City’s thumping 6-1 win over Southampton at the Etihad Stadium.
The victory sent the blue half of Manchester back to the top of the Premier League table, which in turn had a hand in sending Liverpool down to third.
City only have a two-point lead over the Reds, but their 13-goal advantage could play a crucial part in the title race.
On Twitter, some Liverpool fans praised Sterling through gritted teeth, while one supporter suggested that the Merseyside outfit should bring him back to Anfield.

Can Sterling be considered world class? If not, how long or what does he need to do for the label? https://t.co/DpYoZHu7wJ
