Liverpool fans are desperate for their club to sign Iker Casillas on a short-term deal after the Spanish stopper shared a moment of class with the Kop.

Liverpool progressed comfortably to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night, drawing 0-0 with Porto while holding a 5-0 aggregate lead from the first leg.

Perhaps the only two moments of interest from the match both came from Iker Casillas. The 36-year-old Real Madrid legend was benched for the first leg but started at Anfield after José Sá’s horror show in the 5-0 defeat in Portugal.

Casillas leapt wonderfully to prevent Danny Ings from finding the opening goal, after he had shared a mutual applause with the Kop. Liverpool fans are now all saying the same thing - that the Spaniard should be brought in as Loris Karius’ deputy.

It’s no secret that Liverpool have had goalkeeper problems for years, though Loris Karius’ recent form suggests those troubles may soon be over. Many fans have linked the issues to goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, who spent most of his playing days at Tranmere Rovers.

Reds fans are now hoping Casillas will join them in the summer, with some suggesting he could double up as Achterberg’s replacement and a second-choice keeper.
