Many Liverpool fans have paid the highest of compliments to midfielder Pedro Chirivella following his display in the 1-0 win against Everton on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was one of a number of young fringe players handed an opportunity in the starting XI by Jurgen Klopp for the FA Cup third-round tie against their arch-rivals, and he didn't disappoint.

According to SofaScore's player statistics, only Neco Williams had more touches than his 90 during his 90 minutes on the field, while he was accurate with six of the 11 long balls he attempted.

The Spaniard's vision and ability to play those raking passes quickly drew comparisons to a former Red in Xabi Alonso by supporters on Twitter.

The 38-year-old scored 18 goals – including a couple of special ones from his own half – and provided nine assists in 210 outings for the Merseyside outfit, and is currently managing Real Sociedad's 'B' team.

One fan even admitted that he wasn't happy when he saw Chirivella, whose contract actually runs out at the end of the season, in the starting XI, but was made to eat his words.

Another individual decided to compare the Spaniard to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, who is known for his high passing accuracy at Stamford Bridge.
