Ragnar Klavan is not one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players in the Liverpool team, and the defender now finds himself even further down the pecking order.
This season, Virgil van Dijk is likely to be partnered with Dejan Lovren at the back.
Joel Matip is expected to be a fringe option, while Joe Gomez is also now in line following Sunday’s Premier League opening win over West Ham United.
The 21-year-old usually plays at right-back for the Merseyside outfit, but at the weekend he was positioned alongside Van Dijk.
This means that Klavan is fifth in the rankings, and as a result, Goal reports that the centre-back could leave before the end of August.
It is believed that a number of clubs in the German Bundesliga are interested in the 32-year-old, who played for Augsburg before moving to Anfield in 2016.
The speculation has been met with confusion by some Liverpool fans, with a handful thinking that Klopp needs to have as many centre-backs on board as possible due to injury concerns.
Others think that Klopp wants to promote youngster Nat Phillips to fifth choice.
