Joe Gomez has been no stranger to injuries in his professional career, but now he faces a fight to make it into Liverpool's first XI this season.

Manager Jurgen Klopp positioned the 21-year-old as a right-back during the 2018-19 campaign until injury struck.

During a spell on the sidelines, teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold took on the role and thrives.

The 19-year-old kept the position all the way until the end of the season, which raises questions over Gomez's status in the team.

The three-capped England international, who is valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, posted a

Gomez has recovered from ankle surgery and will be vying for a place in the first team.

Some fans, though, believe that the young player is better suited as a centre-back than on the right side of defence.

Others have claimed that he is not quite ready to step into Dejan Lovren or Vigil van Dijk's shoes.

Supporters also expressed their joy in seeing Gomez back on the training field.
