Danny Ings is a well-liked figure among the Liverpool faithful, but his long list of injury woes meant that he was never going to become an Anfield hero.

The 26-year-old left the Reds in the summer transfer window to rejoin former club Southampton on a permanent deal.

Ings spent the majority of his three-year stint on Merseyside receiving treatment for bouts of injury.

Even if he had not suffered long-term problems, it is unlikely that he would be able to break up the attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

The decision to move on suited all parties, so it is easy to understand why plenty of Liverpool supporters were delighted to see Ings get off the mark for Southampton.

The striker made his full debut for the coastal club on Saturday as they took on Everton at Goodison Park.

The result did not go to plan for Ings and his teammates as the Toffees won 2-1, but the forward did manage to get on the scoresheet in the second half.

Some Liverpool fans tweeted their joy for their former player, and others thought it was even sweeter that he netted against Everton.
