Former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can came off of the bench to make just his fourth Champions League appearance of the season for Juventus in their 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, and Reds fans were quick to react on Twitter.

The Germany international left the Merseyside outfit, whom he played 167 times for, to sign for the Serie A giants last summer following the expiry of his contract at Anfield, and his outing in Spain was his 24th in all competitions for Juve so far this term.

When the 25-year-old entered the field as a 72nd minute substitute in the first leg of the last 16 Champions League tie in the Spanish capital the scoreline was 0-0, but late goals from Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin ensured the hosts hold a strong advantage ahead of the return fixture in Turin next month.

Liverpool supporters took to social media to have their say on the latest setback for their ex-star who is finding consistent starts hard to come by, and while one said he "should have stayed", another said the "grass isn't always greener".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
