Liverpool fans are furious at their side for collapsing at West Brom, but they’re even more furious with one journalist’s criticism of their defence.
It’s no secret Liverpool had been poor defensively for a long time.
Until Virgil van Dijk arrived in January, it was a case of “when” rather than “if” the Liverpool defence would make a mistake, as players like Alberto Moreno and Dejan Lovren cost the Reds points time and time again.
All that has changed in recent months though, and the defensive improvement was particularly evident in their Champions League clash with Manchester City, where they conceded just three shots on target in 180 minutes against England’s most potent attack.
With one eye on the semi-final against Roma on Tuesday, Jürgen Klopp rotated his back four at the Hawthorns, and the Reds paid the price as poor performances from Moreno, Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan let the Baggies grab a 2-2 draw.
The collapse was in every sense classic Liverpool, but fans are furious with Daily Mail writer Ian Ladyman’s criticism.
And still we have to listen to those who tell us how much Liverpool’s defending has improved….

Klopp’s side have kept eight clean sheets in their last 11 matches, and until Saturday they had the least goals conceded in the league since the 4-1 mauling they received from Tottenham in October.
Some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…
If only they’d played two games against the best team in the country lately in which the improvement in their defending could be put to the test………..

You're not serious? With 3 of the first choice back 4 missing and playing 12 v 11.
You're better than this, Ian. Surely.

And still we have to pretend Daily Mail employees are 'journalists'

Let’s use the evidence of 15 minutes play compared to a half season of significant improvement. But no go ahead and seize on your moment

Look at recent defensive stats? What a ridiculous comment by someone who supposedly knows about football! Maybe stick to blowing sunshine up Jose’s backside! That’s why you work for the Daily Manc

Only made 3 changes to it with the 2 fullbacks hardly playing in the last few months. But you crack on with your hot takes.
