Liverpool are prepared to spend €125m (£106.8m) on Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz claims Mundo Deportivo, citing the German media.

It is alleged that the European Cup holders have placed themselves at the head of the queue for the Germany international by already holding talks with Leverkusen representatives.

Liverpool's record signing is Virgil van Dijk, who arrived from Southampton in January 2018 for £75m.

However, the English giants are allegedly prepared to smash that figure in order to sign Havertz during next summer's transfer window.

As is often the case at this time of year, the validity of the rumour remains open to debate.

Mundo Deportivo makes some incredibly strong claims, such as the club-record fee and talks with representatives already being underway, while ambiguously attributing their information to "German media" without mentioning any specific source or publication.

Unsurprisingly, however, it has got a number of Liverpool fans talking and many are concerned by the alleged cost.

Others, though, are seemingly keen for their club to complete a deal for the attacking midfielder regardless of the price.

Havertz enjoyed an impressive 2018/19 campaign at club level, finding the back of the net on 20 occasions in 42 appearances in all competitions.

This season, though, he has managed just three goals and one assist in 21 outings.

Another supporter has suggested an alternative to Havertz, with Ajax's Donny van de Beek mentioned as a possible alternative for the Reds. The midfielder has bagged six goals and four assists in the Eredivisie this season.

Meanwhile, a number of the club's fans have been reacting to a journalist's update on the speculation linking Jack Grealish with a possible switch to Anfield.
