Many Liverpool fans have been discussing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar on Twitter following his midweek display in the Champions League.

The 21-year-old, who is rated at £45m by Transfermarkt, played a key role in his side's 1-0 win against Juventus in France on Wednesday night, with the Ligue 1 outfit taking the advantage to Turin in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie next month.

According to SofaScore, the France U21 international made three key passes during the tie, including the assist for Lucas Tousart’s winning goal, while he was also successful with three of the five dribbles he attempted against Juve.

As per those matches where Transfermarkt has recorded his position this term, 16 out of the 30 have come in central midfield, while he has also played on the left on a number of occasions.

It is no surprise then he gained admiring glances from supporters of the Reds on social media who were watching on, and there were plenty who called on the Merseyside outfit to sign the player who has scored nine goals and provided a further seven assists in 34 appearances in all competitions in 2019/20.

One fan labelled him as an "incredible talent", and urged Liverpool to "get him".

Interestingly, others chose to compare Aouar to current Liverpool central midfielders, with Naby Keita in particular getting plenty of attention.

The 2018 signing has struggled to make an impact at Anfield so far following a number of injury issues, and The Athletic's Liverpool correspondent James Pearce claimed that Jurgen Klopp was unhappy with the Guinea international in the 3-2 win against West Ham United this week before he was taken off.
