A lot of tears were shed on Saturday evening when Liverpool lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The first stream came from Mohamed Salah when he was forced off the pitch in the 31st minute after disclosing his shoulder during a tussle with Sergio Ramos.

The next came from Loris Karius after the final whistle of the 3-1 loss in Kiev following his two goalkeeping howlers that led to goals from Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

Plenty of tears were shed from Liverpool fans, and the misery has been compounded after pictures emerged of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reacting emotionally to the result.

It would have been a frustrating evening in Ukraine for the former Arsenal star as he was unable to make an impact due to injury.

The England international's season was over in April when he damaged knee ligaments in the first leg against Roma in the Champions League semi-finals.

As well as being ruled out of the showdown in Kiev, Oxlade-Chamberlain was forced out of contention for the World Cup in Russia.

An image has emerged of the 24-year-old crying after the final whistle, and it has sparked quite the response from Liverpool fans.

The ox after the final whistle. The love I have for this man is incredible. from r/LiverpoolFC
