Liverpool fans full of respect for Roma following Hillsborough gesture

The atmosphere at Anfield in this evening’s Champions League semi-final first leg between Liverpool and Roma is expected to be electric.

The home crowd will try to intimidate their Italian rivals in the hope of giving the Reds that extra push to victory.

In the buildup to the encounter, a level of respect has been shown from both clubs, and Roma made a kind gesture on Monday by honouring the victims of the 1989 Hillsborough tragedy.

On behalf of the Serie A outfit, club captain Daniele De Rossi placed a wreath at the Hillsborough memorial outside Anfield to pay tribute to the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives 29 years ago.

Understandably, the Reds’ following were touched by the gesture.

With regards to matters on the pitch, Liverpool were handed a favourable draw on paper given that the alternatives were Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

Roma stunned everyone by recovering from a 4-1 deficit against Barcelona to progress into the semi-finals.

The second leg at the Stadio Olimpico next Wednesday will decide who reaches the showpiece in Kiev.
