Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to Wednesday’s big win over Red Star Belgrade, and they can’t stop praising Joe Gomez.

Liverpool have had plenty of standout performers so far this season, and most of them are at the opposite end of the pitch to what you might expect.

Alisson Becker looks worth every penny, Virgil van Dijk has been a colossus, but Gomez might be an early frontrunner for Reds’ player of the year.

The 21-year-old, who played as a left-back under Brendan Rodgers and a right-back previously under Jurgen Klopp, has been absolutely superb in the heart of defence this season.

He was at his very best again on Wednesday, winning seven aerial duels and two tackles, making one interceptions and three clearances, all while boasting an 82 per cent pass completion rate.

The youngster showed off his pace with an incredible recovery to stop a later Red Star counter-attack, and the decision to learn his craft on the flanks before moving to a central position is beginning to look like a stroke of genius from Klopp.
