Lazar Markovic has been an unpopular figure among Liverpool fans for some time, but he has just dropped lower in some of their estimations following a farcical transfer collapse.

The winger has been on the Reds' books since 2014 when he signed from Benfica but he has struggled to earn a spot in the team.

In fact, the 24-year-old has made just 34 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, scoring three goals and creating just one assist.

Markovic has had loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull City and Anderlecht.

After years of loan moves, it seemed as though the Serbian was on the move for good, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that a £2.9m fee had been agreed between the club and Anderlecht.

However, the deal collapsed last minute as Markovic failed to agree personal terms with the Belgian outfit.

The winger has since taken to Twitter to hit back at accusations that the transfer fell through due to wage demands, but some Liverpool fans are not buying it.
