Liverpool fans were impressed with Joe Gomez’s performance as the Reds lost to Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.
The former Charlton Athletic defender played at both centre-back and right-back during the game against the Premier League champions and for periods was matched up against Raheem Sterling at the national stadium.
Sterling, of course, scored against his old club but fans were still impressed with Gomez’s performance.
Of course, the 22-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise at Anfield, making a total of 67 appearances for the club. He can play at both full-back and at centre-back – making 51 appearances at right-back and 36 in the heart of defence.

Poor 1st half. Very good 2nd half. Had plenty of chances to win it. Salah scores a hattrick on another day. Gomez was MOTM for me. #LFC

#LFC lessons learnt from this
– Origi and Wjnaldum do better as impact subs
– Keita needs to start every game when fit
– Matip makes a big point for partnering VVD but Gomez looks great at RB too
– Much better 2nd half and was better than City

I’ve no idea what to make of that, completely bi polar performance but still pre season and lacking sharpness and it showed. Thought Naby was good when he came on and Gomez really good at RB…apart from that, meh ??♂️ #LFC

I thought Origi, Firmino, Salah, and Gomez were great today for #LFC.

Very impressed with Joe Gomez today! Forgot how much pace he possessed! But also well played by Matip when he came on! Great tactical change moving Gomez out the RB. Also very impressed with Shaqiri but most of… https://t.co/YYJ6HyI8yA

At least we played well. Gomez looked good and the players off the bench coming back from injury looked sharp

Thought Fabinho and Van Dijk did well, and Gomez didn't put a foot wrong after being robbed by Sterling early on. #LFC
