One of the shock squad selections of the World Cup was announced this week as it was revealed that Leroy Sane has not made Germany's 23-man unit for the tournament in Russia.

The Manchester City star was in fine form throughout the season, but Liverpool fans think that they know the reason why the attacker was snubbed.

Plenty of Reds supporters posted on Twitter that Trent Alexander-Arnold played an inadvertent hand in selection.

The 19-year-old, who earned a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the World Cup, did a stellar job at keeping Sane quiet across two legs of the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

Many fans claimed tongue-in-cheek that Joachim Low decided not to subject Sane to another head to head with Alexander-Arnold in Russia.

Joking aside, the 22-year-old's omission has come as a surprise given that he scored 14 goals and created 17 assists in all competitions for City.

For Germany, Sane has earned 11 caps.
