Dejan Lovren has taken his fair share of stick since joining Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

Indeed, the centre-back, who cost the Reds in the region of £20m, has largely struggled to make his mark at Anfield, and had been out of the team before Joel Matip picked up an injury.

It would be fair to say that a number of Liverpool fans were concerned with what the Manchester City attack would do to him over the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final, but they need not have been concerned.

Indeed, Lovren was impressive in the first leg at Anfield, before putting in an excellent display at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night as Liverpool recorded a 2-1 win to march into the final four of the competition.

The Liverpool supporters have been quick to praise the 28-year-old, with many feeling that this could prove to be the turning point in the defender's Anfield career.
