It all started so well for Liverpool on Tuesday night in their Champions League clash against Sevilla. With just half an hour of the game gone, the visiting side were 3-0 up and looked as good as they have done all season.

However, an almighty second half capitulation allowed Sevilla back into the game and a last second equalizer broke the hearts of the travelling Reds fans.

After the game, pundits and supporters were quick to place the blame on a number of first team players, namely Jordan Henderson and Alberto Moreno.

Moreno has faced plenty of criticism in the past from Liverpool fans for his regular lapses in defensive concentration. However, his performances this season seemed to indicate that he was a much improved player.

Yet last night’s performance was evidence that the Spaniard, who is valued at £9million by Transfermarkt, is still capable of making awful decisions that can negatively affect the outcomes of games.

Speaking to Onda Cero radio this morning, Moreno offered his own analysis of the game;

“We threw away three points. We were already through to the next round, but it was not to be. We knew that even with a 3-0 advantage it was going to be complicated, and that was the case”.

“We had spoken at half-time about how with a 3-0 lead we still had to be careful. More than that [Sevilla playing well], it was a case of how awful we were and how many mistakes we made at the back. They didn’t stop attacking in the second half -- but we came out half asleep.”

Following his comments, Liverpool fans made it quite clear what they thought of the 25-year-old’s performance…
