Lots of Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Garth Crooks claimed in his column for BBC Sport that Sadio Mane is carrying Jurgen Klopp's side.

Mane has been a pivotal part of Klopp's offence this season, with the Senegalese forward netting five of the Reds' 23 Premier League goals - only Mohamed Salah has scored as many in the opening ten games.

The 27-year-old has also struck twice in three Champions League games this term, and won the penalty that ensured the Anfield natives extended their lead at the top of league standings against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Crooks feels Mane's efforts against Spurs were just the latest example as to why he is now Liverpool's main man.

"Two seasons ago, it was Mo Salah who was carrying Liverpool," Crooks noted. "Last season it was Virgil van Dijk, who had a massive influence on the success of the team. This season it's Sadio Mane who is carrying Liverpool on his shoulders.

"His speed, power and strength have been a feature of Liverpool's play this season and without the Senegal international, life at the top would be considerably less comfortable.

"It was Mane who caused mayhem in Tottenham's ranks the entire match and the reason they lost. With a little help from Serge Aurier, of course."

Lots of Liverpool fans have been reacting to Crooks' comment that Mane is carrying the Reds this season, with one supporter noting that the 27-year-old's efforts have only shown that the Anfield side have a wealth of depth.

Another added that Crooks' claim overlooked the performances of Roberto Firmino, who holds the joint-most assists in the Premier League among Klopp's squad with three.

Mane, meanwhile, recorded the most passes in the final third against Tottenham on Sunday of Liverpool's main three attackers, although his efforts were still eclipsed by those of Andy Roberston, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho. The Senegal star also attempted fewer shots than Salah or Firmino, per WhoScored data.
