For a club of Liverpool’s stature, one would assume that targeting elite players in transfer windows would be the only option.
Of course, the Merseyside outfit have recruited world-class talent over the years, but an article in the Liverpool Echo has highlighted a different trend that seems to be working for the club.
In recent seasons, manager Jurgen Klopp has selected players who suffered relegation from their respective clubs.
During his spell at Anfield so far, the German coach has brought in Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United, Andy Robertson from Hull City and Xherdan Shaqiri, who signed from Stoke City in the summer.
Both Wijnaldum and Robertson have established themselves as first-team regulars, while Shaqiri has arguably made more of an impact than Liverpool’s other summer signings this season.
In response to the article, some supporters posted tongue-in-cheek messages on Twitter, with a few poking fun at Manchester United in the process.
If this goes on, hopefully we can get Martial next summer ?
