Just as most of us were expecting, Loris Karius appears to have won his battle with Simon Mignolet for Liverpool’s No.1 jersey.
The former Germany U21 international signed for the Reds from Mainz 05 in the summer but was forced to sit out the opening stages of the 16/17 Premier League campaign after breaking his hand in pre-season – handing the under-fire Simon Mignolet an automatic starting role once again.
But Karius made his first-team debut in Liverpool’s 3-0 EFL Cup victory over Derby County earlier this week and reports now claim Jurgen Klopp will stick with him when Hull City visit Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
It is, of course, no real surprise that Klopp has made such a decision. Despite Mignolet recently showing vast improvements on his calamitous performances over the past few seasons, Karius’ arrival in the summer seemed to mark the beginning of the end of the Belgium international’s first team chances.
Karius was signed by Klopp to eventually be the club’s No.1 shot-stopper and now he’s fit and raring to go, Klopp has wasted no time in handing him the gloves.
However, Liverpool fans still appear undecided by the decision. Some think it’s about time, others think it’s a tad too harsh on the goalkeeper who made four errors that led directly to goals last term…
Bit Harsh on Mignolet..but he needed competition.
Loris Karius is the maaan #LFC

Karius starting against Hull is correct. Migs had 3 seasons to convince us but hasn't. Why should we play him after FEW decent games?

Klopp is wrong to throw Karius in straight away when Mignolet has been doing well. Mignolet does well under pressure for his place

@empireofthekop I'd have prefered Migs. Karius was quite rusty in tuesday. But eventually he'll be the 1st choice, so why not now I guess.

Excited to see Karius today. His first PL start. Huge expectations from him. I hope he'll give Migno a reason to fight for the first place

It seems after all the hype, there was no decision to be made for #LFC No.1. He bought Loris Karius to be number 1

Why are so-called LFC fans abusing Mignolet? What if Karius gets injured again? Who's gonna step in? Stop being so effing stupid.#LFC
