Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was dropped to the substitutes’ bench for the 7-0 win against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday night, and Reds fans were quick to react to his omission.
The Merseyside outfit came into the clash knowing that a defeat would likely see them eliminated from the prestigious competition, but manager Jurgen Klopp still decided to leave his skipper out of the starting XI.
The German’s side cruised to a 7-0 victory as they ended the night top of the group however, with the England international not playing a single minute of the victory.
However, Klopp did say after the game that the 27-year-old will start against Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on Henderson’s absence, and while one said the “writing is on the wall” with regards to his future, another added “we look far more deadly without him”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Truth is we are a much stronger & organised team when Henderson isn't in it. Henderson brings nothing to the team, especially his fake captaincy slash leadership. We will only get stronger without his playing attributes & captaincy. Terrific performance from Klopp and the boys👏

Not the kind of Captain & player the club needs. It's ok to bench him

IMO we are a better team when Hendo doesn't play, taking nothing away from the fact that he is a hard worker and all; but I just don't think he is good enough to play in the first team.
As a squad player? Yes, most definitely!

He’s a squad player at best. Stealing a wage

Its a fact and not a mere coincidence that we dominate better offensively without Henderson. The midfield is more fluid. Its a classic case of Attack being the best form of Defence #LFC

The one thing to come out of last night is Jordan Henderson’s position in the team. As much as I love him as a guy and a captain, as a footballer he’s a weak link in our team. I’m sentimental so I’d struggle to leave him out, Klopp is ruthless. He’ll do it for us. #LFC

Where does Henderson fit in to this team? Look far more deadly without him. #lfc
