Lots of Liverpool fans have been breathing a huge sigh of relief after the latest injury update, as Virgil van Dijk is not expected to miss any considerable time.

Liverpool continued their perfect start to the season on Saturday, comfortably cruising past Southampton in a 3-0 win.

Xherdan Shaqiri was incredible on his debut, Mohamed Salah got back on the scoresheet and Alisson Becker grabbed another clean sheet, but the injury to van Dijk was a major concern.

The colossal Dutchman came off during the second half with a rib injury, but Klopp has now confirmed it is nothing too serious.

"He had before the PSG game a bruise on his ribs, today he got another hit there again and it was uncomfortable, but it shouldn't be too serious,” the boss said after the match.

“Hopefully he'll be absolutely okay."

Van Dijk has helped turn Liverpool from one of the shakiest defences in the league into the most formidable unit in the league, and even with the remarkable form of Joe Gomez an injury to the Dutchman would be devastating.

The Reds face Chelsea twice this week, and it might be safe to assume that van Dijk will be saved for the league fixture at Stamford Bridge.
