Some Liverpool fans on Twitter were split following one-time target Christian Pulisic’s Premier League debut for Chelsea on Sunday.
The Sun reported at the end of 2018 that the Reds were on the verge of beating top flight rivals Arsenal to the addition of the USA international, but the Blues signed him instead at the beginning of 2019 in a £58m deal from Borussia Dortmund.
Jurgen Klopp of course knew all about the 20-year-old having handed him his debut for the Bundesliga giants in 2016, but that seemingly wasn’t enough for him to go all out to bring him to Anfield – although perhaps not surprising given the form wide men Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have shown in the previous couple of seasons.

Pulisic actually had to settle for a spot on the substitutes’ bench for his current employer’s 4-0 defeat against Manchester United at the weekend, before making his bow as a 58th minute substitute for Ross Barkley at Old Trafford.
According to WhoScored, he had a 100% passing accuracy from his 12 attempts, while he successfully completed three dribbles, had one shot and made one key pass.
The American winger could yet face Liverpool when the two clubs meet in the Super Cup in Istanbul on Wednesday, and supporters of the Merseyside were divided on his first Premier League outing.
While one said “Pulisic is so good already”, another said “Klopp knew what he was doing when he dodged the Pulisic signing”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

If Salah wasn’t the player that he is today Klopp would have moved heaven and earth to sign Pulisic.#Starter

With transfer ban, hazard left at the worst time. Also, so glad we passed Pulisic.
