Liverpool fans refuse to use injury troubles as an excuse for Chelsea defeat

A few weeks ago, everything was rosy in Liverpool’s garden as they were flying in the Premier League and charging towards the Champions League final.

The club remain in contention for European glory as they are due to take on Real Madrid in the final on May 26 in Kiev.

If Jurgen Klopp’s men take the trophy, then it will be a hugely successful season, but they are two defeats away from having a horror campaign.

The Reds seemed comfortable in the race for top four, but after failing to strike against Stoke City and then losing 1-0 to Chelsea on Sunday, the club’s hopes rest on the final day of the campaign when they take on Brighton at Anfield.

Klopp’s men need to win the contest in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but if they miss out they can still grab a place if they defeat Madrid in Ukraine.

Performance-wise, Liverpool have looked lacklustre in recent matches, and the same can certainly be said for the clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

After the final whistle JOE.co.uk journalist Melissa Reddy made a point of mentioning the growing injury problems.

Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are among the players on the treatment table.

Plenty of Liverpool fans, though, are not prepared to use injuries as an excuse.
