Liverpool fans relieved that plenty of first-team players will be at home during World Cup

Most football fans like to keep an eye out for their club’s players during major tournaments, but ahead of this summer’s World Cup, it seems that Liverpool supporters are relieved that only a small chunk of their team will be in Russia.

Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino will represent England and Brazil respectively, while Mohamed Salah is expected to receive a call-up to the Egypt squad, Sadio Mane should be on the plane with Senegal and Dejan Lovren could make the Croatia setup.

There are many first-team players who will not be in the competition, including Adam Lallana, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, James Milner Georginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita.

A number of football fans nowadays pick club over country, and that seems to be the case for a few members of Liverpool’s support.

There will be less worry about players picking up injuries, meaning that Jurgen Klopp’s squad will be fresh come pre-season.

On Twitter, Liverpool supporters posted their relief that the majority of their first-team stars will be staying at home for the tournament.
