Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to respond after it was revealed by David Ornstein that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Lille over the signing of Nicolas Pepe.
The Ivory Coast international was said to be a target for Liverpool too this summer, but Jurgen Klopp’s side look to have lost out to the Gunners in the race for the attacker’s signature.
Pepe, 24, put his name up in lights last term with an impressive 22 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1, finishing behind none other than Kylian Mbappe in the scoring ranks.
And losing out on such an impressive performer to Arsenal, a Premier League rival, will come as a huge transfer blow to the Merseysiders.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 6 foot forward in the summer window, and Pepe was one player who supporters could seriously pin their transfer hopes on with no major first team additions of note to report.
Sepp van den Berg, 17, Harvey Elliott, 16, and Andy Lonergan, 35, are the only fresh captures, but not one of those players will be expected to play a major role in the senior squad next season.
So, let’s see what the Reds fans on Twitter have been saying about Arsenal closing in on a deal…
Wow! Pepe looks set for Arsenal. What a signing. https://t.co/aQ5ERSaDSj

I don’t think we were ever in for him. His agent has done his job well. Link him to European champions and his price goes up. Lille must be desperate to sell if they accept Arsenal’s instalment offer.

If this happens, it means that we simply weren’t in for him.

tbf Knutson thinks they’ve overpaid. I’d rather Zeyich.
But we won’t get him either, and Mané’ll be on two weeks rest, and no spare attacking fullback, and August and December are insane…

He’s still unproven. Could flop in a proper league. I think it’s a gamble at that price.
