Loads of Liverpool fans on Twitter have ripped into reported big-money summer transfer target Nicolas Pepe following his Premier League debut for Arsenal on Sunday.

The Times reported in July that the Reds, along with top flight rivals Manchester United, Everton and the Gunners, were all interested in the more than £70m-rated Ivory Coast international, but he eventually joined the latter in a deal worth £72m to be paid in a series of instalments.

He made his competitive bow for the north London outfit as a 71st-minute substitute for Reiss Nelson against Newcastle United at St James' Park at the weekend.

During his short time on the pitch he had 13 touches with a passing accuracy of 66.7% according to WhoScored, while he was also dispossessed on one occasion and suffered one example of bad control.

Liverpool supporters on the popular social media platform were clearly not impressed with what they saw from the man their club reportedly wanted to sign, and they wasted no time ripping into him for his cameo performance.

While one individual simply said "glad we didn't sign him", another said "Klopp knows best" – suggesting that the German played a part in the decision not to move for the 24-year-old attacker.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction...
