Liverpool played Watford at Anfield on Saturday as they looked to consolidate their place at the top of the Premier League table.

Going into this match against the team at the very bottom of the division, they were in the midst of a 34-match unbeaten run. There was only ever going to be one winner on Merseyside, therefore, and the Reds still lead the top of the table by eight points.

That fixture was the first of the league matchday as well, meaning that the club's supporters have been able to enjoy the rest of the weekend's football. Whilst most eyes will be on Manchester United vs Everton and Arsenal vs Manchester City today, but the Liverpool supporters should perhaps cast their eyes to France instead.

That is because they will be able to see Memphis Depay in action for Lyon against Rennes. The Netherlands international is said to be a transfer target for Jurgen Klopp, and so this could be the perfect time to see him in action.

Most fans will remember his disappointing spell at Old Trafford, of course. The 25-year-old spent two seasons with the Red Devils, making 53 appearances. However, he managed to score just seven goals, and only provided six assists as well. In 2016, therefore, it wasn't too much of a surprise to see him depart the Premier League and make the move to Ligue 1 for £16m.

With Les Gones, though, the former PSV man looks rejuvenated. In 130 matches, he has scored 50 goals and provided 42 assists, and that has now led to him being a reported €50m (£42m) transfer target not just for the Reds, but also for Tottenham.

During his time with United, he played the vast majority of his games on the left wing. That is, after all, his natural position. This season, though, he has spent half of his time at centre-forward, and to great effect. In eight matches matches in that role so far this campaign for his club, he has six goals, picking up an average 7.92 WhoScored rating to boot. His dribbling skills have been used to good effect - he has 2.5 per match in the Champions League and 2.7 domestically in that role - and he has also managed to complete plenty of key passes, with an average of 2.9 across the two tournaments from the central striking position.

Against Rennes, Lyon should have most of the ball - they have averaged 55.2% possession so far this campaign compared to the Bretons' 48.6%. The two central defenders, Joris Gnagnon and Damien Da Silva, have respective WhoScored ratings of 6.75 and 6.89 this term, meaning that Depay will fancy his chances of putting in a strong display.
