Liverpool only picked up a point at home for the second time in three days as they drew 0-0 with a struggling West Bromwich Albion side at Anfield on Wednesday night, and Reds fans weren’t impressed with Emre Can’s performance.
The Germany international returned to the starting line-up having been an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw against Everton in the latest edition of the Merseyside derby on Sunday, and he partnered Gini Wijnaldum and Philippe Coutinho in midfield.
However the 23-year-old, who is yet to extend his deal which is due to run out next summer, was too ponderous in possession and made some questionable tackles from his position in the middle of the park.
Liverpool supporters were quick to have their say on his display via social media, and while one said “just get rid of Can for ten million”, another described him as an “awful, awful player”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
On Emre Can: "I hope Serie A is slow, because this fella could chew the hind leg off an Italian Donkey. Loves six touches when one will do. Shite tonight. Slow, stupid in the tackle, nowhere near as good as Jordan Henderson." ? | #LFChttps://t.co/swot76IYW8

All the 'Twitter pundits' looking a little bit silly today after seeing the side they craved Sunday perform worse last night than Sunday's side! And it's getting boring reading about Can like he's a mix of Gerrard/Pirlo! He is bang average, proved again last night. #LFC

If Jordan Henderson had put in Emre Can's performance tonight he would have been lynched. It was one of the worst midfield performances I have seen in a long long time. Wijnaldum wasn't much better either. #LFC

Can has his merits but his lack consistency and the degree to which he slows down our play thus allowing the opposition to reorganise is something his fanboys seldom acknowledge. #LFC

Klopp makes changes too late again.
Firmino invisible again.
Can abysmal again.
Same old Liverpool again.#LFC

Form of a few players has dipped quite badly. Thought Can, Wijnaldum & Mane were all awful tonight. Big game v Bournemouth on Sunday now. Must win! #LFC
