Liverpool ran riot on Friday evening against Huddersfield Town to move back atop the Premier League prior to Manchester City’s clash with Burnley on Sunday, but Daniel Sturridge was the victim of quite a bit of fan backlash.
The Reds won 5-0 at Anfield, putting the already-relegated Terriers to the sword to take their tally for the season to 91 points.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are now hoping for a slip from the Premier League champions, who play Burnley, Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion in their run-in. The Reds round off their season with clashes against Newcastle United and Wolves.
Their performance against Huddersfield underlined their intentions, with Naby Keita scoring the opener prior to two braces from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
However, Sturridge endured an evening to forget, having been given a rare start by Klopp.
Per WhoScored, he had just two shots on goal, neither of which were on target, while he had just 30 touches of the ball, noticeably fewer than any other Liverpool player.
He won one aerial duel but was dispossessed three times, and Liverpool fans were quick to slate the former England international’s display on Twitter after the game. Take a look at the best of the reaction below!
Keita was brilliant last night along with Robertson.
All were good enough though against the worst team I’ve seen live for many years.
Only negative was Sturridge who looked a million miles off the pace.

How bad was Sturridge last night? Thanks for the good times, and on his day he was special, but hes not good enough any more.

Little sad watching Sturridge yesterday. Not sure what his role in the team was; didn' really gel with the team plays and always looked like playing catch-up. Always a second or two too slow and just looked unfit for our style of play.

Sturridge was lost last night.

Sadly, Daniel Sturridge is a very pale shadow of the player who terrorised the Premiership alongside his strike partner, Luis Suarez.
You'd be forgiven if you didn't notice Sturridge during the game vs Huddlesfield

Sad to see how poor Sturridge has become. Was on track to become one of the best forwards in the world but injuries have just ruined him, it’s really too bad. He doesn’t even look like a championship player

Very true. Sadly him in the team is actually hindering our play. Too slow and disjointed. Can’t run anymore.
