There is no doubt that Liverpool's defence improved when Virgil van Dijk was bought in the January transfer window.

However, there has not always been such confidence in his centre-back partners.

Dejan Lovren's form was better when he played alongside the Dutchman in the second half of the season, but the World Cup finalist is still prone to mistakes.

Jurgen Klopp's other options are Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, who this season has converted from right-back to the centre of defence.

Lovren is currently on the sidelines with an injury, and Gomez has been the one to step in.

The 21-year-old has been in the first XI for each of Liverpool's four Premier League fixtures, and so far has put in some solid displays.

Judging by the comments, the fans are more than happy for Gomez to keep his spot.
